002 ~ [Dream]
Warnings: Spoilers for the latest aaarc, but not really huge ones, unless you click the second link I guess. Ah, that link might be a little disturbing too.
Effects: Happiness and excitement at first, uneasiness, emotional pain (or something) and concern later.
[Filtered from one Elliot Nightray since the thread with Vanessa.]
It starts out dark, with just the melody of a song, silently, in the black. But soon, there’s a voice. Those who know Leo would recognise it as his.
”Elliot, this is for you. This is to show my gratitude for ’Statice’.”
A hand holding a piece of paper, dressed in a white sleeve shows up in the darkness, and quickly the light spreads to show Leo himself, and he’s holding out said paper towards Elliot. He’s smiling, and it’s a genuine smile, not just one he wears to tease or act. It’s always hard to tell since half of his face is always covered by glasses and hair, though, so you would only be able to truly tell if you really knew him.
Elliot is smiling as well, one of those rare soft smiles he occasionally wears.
”This song just came to my mind, like an inspiration. I hope you like it. The title is… ’Lacie’.”
The scene shifts, the song is still playing in the background as a forest takes shape. A forest outside of a school, more exactly; the Latowidge school. Oz is with them this time, wide-eyed and looking at the both of them pretty intently. And not to forget the hands clenching Elliot’s shoulders.
”Before we met, did you guys play a song together?” he asks, as if it’s of really big importance.
Elliot just looks rather confused.
”…huh? How did you know…?” is his response (how intelligent).
”Don’t ask! I… want to know about that song. The writer, the name… Whatever’s fine!”
Elliot huffs (”ha”), and pushes Oz’s hands off him. ”Pfft. I was wondering what you were trying to say.”
”Hey…”
”I wrote that song,” Elliot says, oh so clearly, his tone annoyed as he turns around to move on back to the school. But halts a few moments later, first, as he answers. ”The song’s name is… ’Lacie’.”
If you look closely, you would be able to see that Leo wears an expression that seems almost troubled, disappointed maybe (but not really), a bit sad. And he is troubled, because he wrote that, he did, but Elliot is utterly convinced it was him… And Leo can’t for the life of him understand why. But he does know how, and…
It hurts to hear Elliot be so convinced about something that’s not true, when he knows how. But he doesn’t say anything, just swallows as he follows after Elliot and Oz, tries to banish the memories of that thing, that thing that makes Elliot forget…
(But it flashes in his mind anyway, insistent, insistent to hurt, to wound, to stick a knife through his heart. As if it doesn’t already hurt enough.)
He’s not even sure where the pattern there lies, but it makes Elliot forget things and he can’t understand the reason for this one. It makes him uneasy, as if he’s missing something that he should know (yet he’s not sure he wants to know).
”You have a problem with that?!” Elliot adds to that for good measure, his sword resting on his right shoulder as he glances over the opposite one at Oz.
Leo tries to school his expression, pretends to look somewhere else. He’s still not saying anything, and he’s not going to either. He can’t say anything, just can’t. However small, anything Elliot forgets… he will not remind him.
Because he doesn’t dare.

[Noel couldn't contain her startled gasp. Die? Would the consequences really be so serious? It was almost as if she felt her own heart sinking. Noel gripped the hem of her dress as this harsh fact processed through her mind. This was terrible... She had no idea that Elliot carried such a horrible secret; One that even he wasn't ware of. She can't even imagine how Leo felt, having to keep this all to himself.
Her thoughts were cut short by Leo giving her a question of his own. 'Chains'...? He obviously didn't mean the universal, mundane definition. Was it really all right for him to be telling her this? She wasn't sure anymore.]
N-No, I can't say that I do...
video.
In my and Elliot's world, there's a place called the Abyss, kind of... another world, like this one. Creatures called Chains live there, and they escape sometimes... mainly to eat humans but there are some with... different reasons for existing.
To stay in the human world, they need to make contracts with humans. Elliot... is contracted to one of the special Chains.
video.
[
Wait, what was that thought just now? She didn't remember anything like that before... Did she? Could she be regaining some of her memories?
Noel rubs her forehead with a slight cringe, trying to ignore the steadily increasing throbbing in her brain. Now's not the time to think about it. The immediate concern was Elliot.]
N-Nevermind. S-So, from what I can see, in exchange for the contract, the human gains the 'Chain's' abilities. It's almost like the Nox Nyctores that Major Kisaragi and I use...
[She pauses, processing the information for a moment, voicing her own thought on the matter as she did so.]
I... can't really imagine why he'd do such a thing, though...
video.
And he shakes his head.]
He didn't, not... on his own. He just did as told... It was the only way to save him...
video.
I understand. You... don't have to say anymore, Leo.
[It was enough. She didn't need to know anymore details, and it would be too cruel to ask him for it. He had struggled a lot to tell her this much. This was fine.
Noel gave him an appreciative nod, though her expression remained serious.]
Thank you... for telling me all this. I, um, promise not to let anyone know about what you've told me. I'm
really sorry I had to bring it up...
video.
It's alright... Thank you.
[He shakes his head lightly.]
And I'm sorry you got caught up in this. It really shouldn't...
[Unsure of where he was going with that exactly, he just trails off and turns his head away.]
video.
Um... H-How's Elliot doing right now, by the way? He isn't still mad about how we dragged him away that time, is he...?
video.
No, he's alright. Things like that don't keep him angry for long.
video.
[She fidgets a bit, blushing with embarrassment.]
I... was thinking of t-t-telling him how I feel. Properly, this time. That's okay... right?
video.
Why wouldn't it be? That's your choice.
video.
[Insecure Noel has very weird insecurities. It's obvious she hasn't done something like this before, and that she isn't very good with talking to people. So obvious that it can be physically painful to watch.]
I... I... I guess what I'm trying to say is... I really want to be friends with you too?
video.
But he really. Doesn't know how to respond to that second thing. Uhm. He's not one who looks for friendships, at all, and it's never been said directly like this.
What do.
He'll just. Respond to the other thing. Yeah. The unsure pause is probably rather glaringly obvious though.]
Why would you be an interference?
video.
[Ye...ah... Really 'special'. Then again, anyone would be if they only remembered the last five years of their life. Social skills what are those.]
W-W-Well, I... um... I guess that was a really silly thing for me to worry about! I think.
[She blinks, as if realizing something.]
... Ah! I'm terribly sorry! Here I am, just rambling and wasting your time when you could've gone back to sleep! I'm sorry...
video.
[Even if not the ideal company right now, it's still better than being alone with his thoughts.]
